Newcastle Fire Protection District "Woes" coming to a head.
We must either pass a Bond Measure, be absorbed into another Fire District, or be eliminated.  Regardless, we will pay.  If we sit and do nothing, we pay for nothing.

Three important bulletins follow:

As I think all of you are aware, the Newcastle Fire Protection District is facing very serious challenges.  The fire station is structurally deficient and firefighters are no longer allowed to stay in the fire station while on duty overnight.  They are required to sleep in a travel trailer parked on an adjacent property.  The Newcastle Fire District pays our firefighters $8.50 per hour and offers no health benefits to any of its employees.  Revenues are not adequate to build a new fire station or offer a living wage to firefighters.

As a result of these circumstances, the NFPD Board has decided to ask Newcastle residents to approve a parcel tax in order to address the critical problems facing the fire department.  I want to invite all of you to a meeting to hear about the problems facing the NFPD and how we can help to solve these problems.

On Tuesday, Jan 10 at 7:00 pm in the NESD gym, there will be a meeting to which you are all invited.  Members of the NFPD Board, consultants who have helped create the parcel tax measure, members of the Friends of the NFPD Committee and myself will be present to discuss the challenges facing the NFPD and the importance of this parcel tax vote.

Please plan to attend.  There is no need to RSVP.  Just join us at the meeting and we will be pleased to see you.
We hope to see all of you on Tuesday.

For residents of Newcastle who are not members of the Newcastle Community Association, the following is an example of how the NCA Board strives to stay abreast of legislation which affects our township.

The CAL FIRE fee which was passed last June as part of the state budget package has serious negative implications for Newcastle residents.  It imposes a fee on us for which we will receive no services.  Your NCA Board has been working to inform legislators of the unfairness of this fee and has offered a way to improve the legislation.  Below is a copy of the letter we have sent to the Governor and numerous legislators throughout the state.  We will continue to work against this fee in its present form.

Show your gratitude to our community leaders by joining NCA - $15.00 per household.  Click  here for application to join.
